stjfinalST. JOHNSBURY- The Hilltoppers are looking for what may be their most important win, this Saturday against Essex. Not only will it be the Hilltoppers 10th win on their undefeated season, but it will put them in the State Championship game.

Head coach, Rich Alercio spoke to News 7 about how the team has to prepare, how many fans he expects, and what it means to have an undefeated season.

"It has far exceeded our expectations, we knew we were going to be pretty good going in, we talked to our players about probably being a 4-4 team to start, based on who we had."

The team has proven that they are much more than a 4-4 squad, as they have outscored opponents this season a whopping 372 to 129, which includes the teams previous two games where they outscored Lyndon Institue and Hartford, 86-0. The Hilltoppers have won every game this season by double digits, and in the last three games, their starters have only given up one touchdown.

The Essex Hornets are not a team to look down on though. Sitting at the third seed in the division, and with a 7-2 record, the Hornets are looking to put an end to the Toppers winning streak.

Alercio is worried about the Hornets speed offensivley, but knows that St. Johnsbury's confidence is at an all time high.

"If we play the way we've been playing, the outcome will be favorable."

Although you will have to pay to watch the game on Saturday, the Hilltoppers are not ready to disappoint, as they truly believe they are the best team in the state. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM in St. Johnsbury.
