Lyndon- The Police Advisory Committee in Lyndon is back for the first time in years.
The Selectboard agreed to bring it back on their Monday meeting. The committee was formed in 2008 where seven members served for the Lyndonville Police Department and the community. It was formed because the Lyndonville Police expanded its coverage area. Specifically, from the village to the whole municipality. It was originally established with three town and four village representatives. Now, that is going to vcahnge due to the town-village merger that happened in the summer of 2023. One person in particular that suppported this decision was newly elected Selectboard member and LPD police officer, Daniel Renaudette.
''The Chief Of Police Jack Harris has built his department around the idea of community policing, it only makes sense to have as many connections with the community and its residents so that we all might have insights into what is happening in our town," Rennaudette stated.
The Selectboard appointed Chris Hunter to be the Selectperson. In the past, the activities from the committee were periodic and it was reported in 2012 members from the committee didn't meet at a consistent basis and some didn't know their roles. The Police Advisor Committee always had problems to gain traction from the town, but members of the Selecboard stated it is important to bring back this committee and for it to be engaging.
''As far as the past role of the Committee, it can only be as active as the members want to be. I think with the the merger having taken place and many exciting things taking place in town has sparked more interest in town affairs," Renaudette stated.
