LYNDONVILLE- The Caledonia County Special Olympics program will be running the Veterans' Park Information Booth in Lyndonville this year.
The information booth serves as a resource for travelers visiting the Northeast Kingdom. Last year, it was managed by Cynthia Stuart, chair of the Kingdom East School Board.
The Special Olympics are taking over the booth as a fundraiser to help with a budgetary shortfall. The person or group running the booth receives a $2,000 stipend from the Lyndon Area Chamber of Commerce. According to Special Olympics volunteer Deb Cuccia, the Special Olympics program needs about $10,000 overall.
"This is, you know, a real big, you know, number for us to get to that number," said Cuccia. "Other fundraisers we're doing as well. But we need a lot of little fundraisers to get up to that $10,000."
Cuccia said a grant writer working with the program suggested they take on the booth. The booth's regular volunteers will be manning it with greeting help from Special Olympics athletes. The athletes will also be responsible for maintaining the booth and the area around it.
The info booth will open for the season later this month.
