H.O.P.E. to Relocate

hopeLYNDON- The non-profit organization H.O.P.E. is going to be raising funds to support their relocation. The move won’t be far, as their new building is only two hundred yards from where they are now.

The reason, according to H.O.P.E. Director Bob McCabe, is to give the store more room for putting items out for the public eye.

“I think that we’ll be able to expand our services and do what we do better … we will be able to offer more things for sale to support the mission of H.O.P.E.,” McCabe said.

The non-profit organization was founded in 2005 and located in Lyndonville. H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday) serves towns and communities around the Northeast Kingdom by providing basic needs such as food and clothing for people and families in dire need.

According to the H.O.P.E. website, in 2013 over 2500 individuals benefited from their food pantry, and over 1500 children’s backpacks were donated and provided to children in need. The organization also holds fundraising events, like the Color Walk & Run that took place last weekend, and the Sweetheart Ball back in February. Now, the organization has grown to the point that a move is necessary. According to McCabe, the new location is already under construction.

“They’re still working on the outside, and it’ll be a process,” McCabe said.

An employee at H.O.P.E., Kathy Swister, says the move is a wonderful idea, and the organization really needed more space.

“I think it’s great. We’re gonna be able to hold more stuff,” Swister said.

A total of $250,000 will have to be raised in order to make the move possible. Within the next few months, however, fundraising will begin to make the move possible. With ambitions to complete the the move within the next two months, McCabe says once the funds are available, and the construction complete, the move itself should begin and not take long at all.
