DANVILLE- The Danville girls basketball team is set to take the floor for another season under head coach Jim Wilkins. The Lady Indians will look to set an energetic and hard working tone this year that will be the type of tone that the team hopes to set for years to come. The Indians finished last season with a record of 5-16.
Coach Wilkins is hoping that his players can buy into his system. He has been at Danville for five seasons is looking to develop a basketball program as a whole on all levels instead of on just a varsity level. “Over the last couple of years its been a little difficult the girls haven’t really bought into the system.” The team this year is young and only carries five returning players. “We’ve got a really energetic group this year, I really think we are going to set that tone that I want to bring to Danville.”
However buying into the system won’t affect Senior captain Lauren Young’s idea of being a “We” team instead of a “Me” team. “All we no me thats what I’m really hoping for this year , sometimes players play for me and I want to see us play as one team”.
As for their opponent, the Blue Mountain Bucks in their first game the team will have to push the ball and keep the foot on the pedal. “We scrimmaged them in the summer in summer ball so we kinda have an idea of what their team looks like, we have been conditioning a lot since were not that big this year so we know we are going to have to run the court.”
The Indians will take on the Bucks at Blue Moutain on December 13th.
