Lack of Snow Didn't Stop Racing

snowmobile picBURKE - Officials were able to wave the green flag for snowmobile racing at Burke. As warm temperatures melted most of the snow earlier last week, colder temperatures helped track workers make snow all day Thursday and Friday for the East Coast Snowcross race which kept track groomer Bob Pawlowski busy.

"It's a little harder, but we got the cold weather just in time.  We had cold weather the last two nights and that rain which set us back but we really made snow the last two nights which made the event come alive."

The event kicked off the season for the group where the 1400 foot track made with man-made snow created a challenge even for professional riders like Derek Ellis from North Dakota.  "These guys did a pretty good job with what they had I know the weather didn't corporate very much where were quite limited on snow here. They did a good job pulling through a track for us to ride on and you know its not gonna get much better than this or much worse so you just gotta accept the tougher conditions and ride in it ."

Fourteen year old Andy Cummings from New York was here racing for the first time.  He qualified to move up a heat and place second.  "The track gets really rough really quick. I'm shocked at what happened, it was really fun and the sleds rip it up fast. I'm hooked."

The race featured over 60 riders young and old where they will take a break for the holiday season and travel to Plattsburg New York on January 5th.
