Chairlift Evacuation at QBurke

chairliftevacBURKE -   The Mid Burke Express chairlift is running after Qburke Mountain Resort had an emergency evacuation of the lift on Saturday.

Due to low voltage malfunction, the chairlift stopped unexpectedly while people were headed up the mountain yesterday for their last run of the day around 4 o'clock. Burke's lift operations team tried to fix the problem for fifteen minutes, but due to the time of day, they called in Ski Patrol for a lift-rope evacuation of everyone on the chairlift.

Near 6 o'clock everyone was removed from the lift. In an official statement relieased by Burke they said, "We felt the evacuation went incredibly well, with no injuries and everyone on the lift safely off."

One man stuck on the chairlift, Christopher Brook, said, "They did a nice job. They were prepared, and they had a lot of people out there to try and bring people down, so it was nice to see."

This was the first time the Mid Burke Express has been evacuated within its four years of operation.

The lift operations team stayed on throughout last night to resolve the problem with the lift, and it was back in operation for the public this morning at 9 o'clock.
