BURKE- The coldest weather of the season is upon us here in the Northeast Kingdom. In an effort to stay warm and help out during the winter season, the Burke community came together to put on a Spaghetti Supper.
Spaghetti was served this past weekend in Burke, for people who were in need of food or to just have a warm place to relax and socialize. The town of Burke is the first and only town to put on an event like this one around the area, but the town has challenged other towns to put on an event for a good cause.
"Island Pond is going to have to do it, and Barton is going to have to put on one, and we're just going to have to keep going forward. We figured we'd keep going right up [route] five and 114 and head north and go from there," Judith Kerrigan said, the owner of Kerrigan's Convenience.
Ford Hubbard attended the event this past weekend and thinks this is exactly what the community needs. "It's a great event. We have to continue to do that in the Northeast Kingdom to support the needs of everything and of everybody that lives here."
The goal from the dinner was to raise one-thousand dollars. It is still unknown what the final amount raised was, as the town is still in progress of figuring out the numbers. None-the-less, Kerrigan hopes to see this kind of event spread throughout the area.
"Good luck and I hope you raise a lot of funds for the program that you're working on."
Burke is already planning for another dinner to support the community in the near future.
