AROUND THE NEK - The town of Ryegate turned voters away for 4 hours on Town Meeting Day, as the Blue Mountain School District failed to approve their budget by 7 votes.

On Thursday, during a complicated emergency meeting held by the Blue Mountain School District, the school board discussed what had happened in Ryegate and what the next steps are for the school.

The meeting involved many different public comments talking about the failures of Ryegate, but also cautioning the school board on their next steps. Many of the comments were focused solely on Ryegate's voting process, where voters aren’t allowed to vote until the town meeting informational is complete. However, Thursday it ran for roughly 4 hours.

The school board went between many different ideas; either way, another vote would need to be held in order to approve a budget. The main issue was to figure out whether or not the same budget number should remain.

The school board ended up postponing any decision, adjourning the meeting while tensions remained. Another meeting is planned for Monday at 6pm.
