Richard "Dick" Lawrence reflects on his life

LYNDON -- Thanksgiving morning the Town of Lyndon lost a friend, colleague and a community leader.

Richard Lawrence... a former state house representative and Caledonia County Fair president, died at the age of 80.

Lawrence when he stepped down from the fair this fall, where he reflected on his time in Lyndon.

"A native of Lyndon, I say I never made enough money to get out. Not quite true but there a lot of things here that are positive. I always thought it was important to give back to the community. My younger days i was a coach for little league... Babe ruth.  I farmed dairy for 30 years in what they called the whole herd buyout in 1987 and uh at that point I went into real estate at the same time i became president of the fair so I moved on hand in hand.  I owned agway for 20 years with my family and it wasn't a one person deal. Without my family we could of never of done what we did. Town events... I've been a town moderator. I've held a town office one sort of another for 50 years.  I took a trip into political politics for 20 years in the legislature.  So I've been connected with the community trying to be an important part of making a small town like Lyndon come together, thrive together and work together.  And I think in most cases I've done well. So that in a nutshell is where dick has been and most times he's had a wonderful time. But it has never been what has dick done but it's what we as a team have done." said Lawrence

The funeral service for lawrence will be held on saturday at 1 in the Lyndon Institute auditorium.
