Peacham - Peacham Elementary had all hands on deck this summer by creating a bread oven that helped strengthen their community bond.
Students, faculty as well as their surrounding community near Peacham Elementary came together to build a bread oven. The elementary school prides themselves by being involved within the community. Principal Sam McLeod said, “So that’s really what it comes down to, having our kids, our students, our school building a sense of place within the community so students have a sense of belonging. They have that feeling of legacy and to be apart of a community, to give back to a community, to serve a community.”
Each class lent a helping hand by mixing clay on their “clay day” while others would help mold the oven. Peacham Elementary plans on having a christening for their newly crafted oven later in September, where they invite anyone and everyone to come and celebrate with them. The school plans to use this oven throughout the year to show their students how to make different recipes while using the many different vegetables students planted in their gardens. Samuel who is one of their fifth grade students says “It’s cool to come out here and see the bread oven, and see that everybody in the community and in the school got to work on it, and I feel like it’s a sign of bonding and friendship.”
