ST. JOHNSBURY - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in the Northeast Kingdom.
Many people have been seeing snow sticking to the ground and the occasional afternoon snow flurry.
Christmas lights are being strung, decorations are being put up as people are getting to the holiday spirit. The St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce is putting a fun twist on a classic part of the holidays.
The Welcome Center in St. Johnsbury is full of wreaths made by forty local business. The wreaths are decorated by anything from paint brushes, little jars of maple syrup or even Vera Bradley items. The wreaths will be auctioned off in an effort to raise money for the St. Johnsbury Santa's Village and Workshop which is a third annual celebration that happens at the historic St. Johnsbury Train Depot and Welcome Center. Children can see Santa arrive by firetruck and can even get a picture with their favorite man in red. There are many activities for children as well including gift making and face painting. Suzzane Timson, the organizer of the Santa's Village Workshop, is crossing her fingers that the wreaths will be a success. "I hope everybody comes down and supports it, it's a great fun thing, we've got wonderful wreaths with fun ideas and traditional ideas and even gift ideas on them so it's a fun activity", said Timson proudly.
Besides the Welcome Center, you can also bid on the wreaths located at the Athenaeum and upstairs at Catamount Arts. The biding process is simple, at each location there is a binder where you can provide your information and your bid and you can bid as many times as you like, there are no limits! This Friday, all of the wreaths will be moved to the Welcome Center just in time for the Festival of Wreaths Galla. At 5 PM, the winners of the silent auction will be announced.
