U-32 schoolThe U-32 School will be hosting Vermont History Day this Saturday. The event will have about 200 Vermont students, including students from the Lyndon Town School, who are in the fifth and sixth grade. All students will be competing to convey the state's 225-year history to others. The theme of this year's History Day is exploration, encounter and exchange.

"My last year in 5th grade, I had put on a play for my school," said Emma Renaudette, a student at the Lyndon Town School.  "I wrote it but I didn't really perform it, and I really like to see my writing come to life. It is a really cool feeling."

The event allows all those interested to take part sharing the state's history. The students have a large range of projects that include exhibits, documentaries, papers, performances, and websites they could choose from.  Students will be competing for numerous awards, that cover all the mediums used at the event.

"It's really up to the students, which is one of the things that I really love about the project," said Tyler Willis, a sixth grade humanities teacher. "They get to pick the way that they learn best and they get to create a project that way, which is awesome!"

The competition has been going on for over 30 years. It prides itself on challenging students to think critically, as well as problem solving, communication skills, self-esteem, and overall confidence. Doors will open at the U-32 School at 8:30am and the awards ceremony will be held at the end of the day at 3:30. For more information you can contact the school at 802-229-0321.
