LYNDON- Lyndon Institute Athletics has had a lot to brag about lately. They won the Division II Boys Basketball Championship on Saturday, earlier in the fall the football team played in their championship game, and the Alpine and Nordic Skiers at the Institute reached states.
With all of their success on the playing field Lyndon Institute has seen an increase of the fan support as well. Fan buses that headed out to the boys semi-finals and finals games in Barre both carried enthusiastic supporters to the games.
Lyndon Institute Athletic Director Paul Wheeler commented on the increase of fan support as "evident with the steady stream of locals, regulars or not, who came by to buy tickets to the finals game". Wheeler included that fan attendance is regular but it has regularly increased over this year.
Wheeler also went on to talk about how the entire school and its athletes are "fortunate and appreciative of the overwhelming support".
Boys Basketball Coach Pat Gukin also commented on the affect of the athletics in relation to the season saying "as the season progressed we got more positive turnouts from fans and that related to a stronger positive influence on players".
Gukin went on to further say that the added attendance didn't add any pressure to his players.
Lyndon Institute Athletics hopes not only to continue their success off the field but also keep the fan attendance up as well.
