National Food Day

fudST.JOHNSBURY- The Northern Vermont Regional Hospital held activities for national food day on October 23rd in honor of national food day.  Every year twenty three thousand die because of consuming meats which have been prosseced and raised with chemicals and GMO's

 

NVRH held demonstations on how to make smoothies, healthy food alternatives, food samples and prizes for both the NVRH staff and members of the community.

Food day also focuses on the environment and how useful composting is. Composting is the act of taking all food waste such as coffee grounds, fruit peels and cooked meat as soil to grow other plants.

Composting is important because it helps keep food waste out of landfills and makes more food from exsiting but maybe inedable food.

A big theme at food day was "real food"; real food is food that does not have preservatives, atrificial dyes  or flavors.

Eating only "real food" will decrease the chance of developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

It is predicted that in the year 2016 one in every six adults will develop diabetes type 2, which  not only causes  major health inconviences , if not treated properly someone diagnosed with diabetes type two can die.

Across the country, more than 4,700 events took place in 2013 for national food day and those numbers definitly increased this year.
