LYNDON - Technology is ever chaning and Cobleigh Library is doing their part to help the community keep up with the times.
Every week the library hosts a computer workshop to help teach locals how to use them. People who enroll in the class also learn about social media, setting up email and more. Assistant Librarian Cheryl McMahon is one of those people who teach the course.
She teaches it because she knows how important computer skills are.
"Everyone needs computer skills," McMahon said. She said it was for various reasons including building resumes and applying for jobs, but most of the people who show up for class every week are senior citizens.
"Some of the people that come in feel very insecure or are afraid about it and they'll say they're computer illiterate. I always tells them they're ahead of the curve because they're here," McMahon said. "They're trying. They're interested. They're asking questions. They want to learn about the technology."
These classes have been going on for 22 years now and they have around 15 computers with internet. The oldest student is 94 years old. McMahon's jobs take patience, but she loves doing it.
"I love the people we get to meet," McMahon said. "We work a lot with retirees and senior citizens and I've met some amazing people."
