BURKE- The recently voted upon Recreational Vehicle parking ban in Burke is heading for a revote. The vote had previously passed to allow parking of RV's anywhere in Burke by just one vote.
As of now, RV's are only allowed to park on property that is larger then ten acres. The change in policy would allow parking on any private property regardless of size.
This request to change the policy was brought in front of the board by Burke property owner, Mike Mathers. He said "you need to give these guys a place to go. I thought I had a great spot for it, and I still do. It's ended up being quite a process to get to that stage."
The select board accepted a petition required to hold a revote. Burke Selectman Darryel Corrow said, "Had the petition acted on it and we're scheduling an informational meeting."
Previously there had been support from local residents, including Carolyn Starr, who said "It brings a lot of business, a lot of bikers and skiers. All of them come up here and if they don't have a place to park their motor home without going 20 miles away, they aren't going to come back. We should do everything we can to keep the business coming and the people."
The informational meeting on the revote is scheduled for June fifth at 6 P.M., with the revote taking place on June ninth.
