Powers Pleads not Guilty for Attempted Murder of Nephew

ST. JOHNSBURY- Ricky Powers, 57, of Waterford, pleaded not guilty to his charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault with a weapon, and reckless endangerment in Caledonia County Court on Monday.

 On Sunday afternoon, Powers was arrested by Vermont State Police, who claim he fired two shots at Randy Bedard, Powers' nephew.

Bedard said after the hearing, his uncle has had a hard time getting over the loss of his mother.

Court documents state that Bedard informed investigators that Powers followed him in his truck after passing him on Shadow Lake Road in Waterford. Bardard was followed onto Route 18 North by Powers. Investigators add that this is when Powers got out of his vehicle twice and shot a rifle at Bedard's Truck, firing two rounds.

Bedard was uninjured, and Powers' shots missed his truck. According to investigators, they found a box of ammunition commonly used in handguns, and a rifle with two rounds missing.

After the incident, State Police arrested Powers at his home, and he is currently being held without bail. Powers denies any memory of the event he was arrested for.
