Waterford - A massive blaze destroyed a single-family home on Hudson Road in Waterford this weekend. Waterford Rescue rushed to the scene just after 10 a.m. on Saturday to put out the fire and try to salvage part of the house.
Because Waterford is in a rural part of the state, it is challenging for fire departments to get there on time.
“It was very pivotal as soon as the call came in that we started contacting other departments immediately,” Waterford Firefighter Jeff Gingue said. “The response time varies, especially being rural like this.”
The fire was large enough that the American Red Cross was called in to help the victims of the fire and first responders. For three or four nights members of the Red Cross will continue to keep track of them and make sure all is well.
“We will keep track of them and make sure that of they have any problems to contact my director or myself," a Red Cross employee said. “And we take care of first responders, I think that’s one of our primary goals.”
One of the homeowners went on to say, “everyone is okay and that’s the most important thing.”
The fire spread quickly due to its considerable size and temperature. At this moment, it is unclear how the fire started. At this point in time, there are no injuries with anyone involved in the fire.
